Hyderabad: Three youth electrocuted while transporting Ganesh idol in Bandlaguda, 3rd incident in 2 days
Hyderabad: Three youths were electrocuted and another was injured while transporting a Ganesh idol in Bandlaguda.
This is the third incident in two days. Panic has gripped people after the incidents.
Bandlaguda mishap
Bandlaguda inspector R Devender said that the accident happened at around 1 am, when a tractor carrying a Ganesh idol from Lakshmi Nagar to Puranapul reportedly came into contact with a high-tension wire.
The victims were identified as Tony (21) and Vikas (22), who died on the spot. Another person identified as Akshay (23) critically injured, was rushed to a nearby hospital. His condition is said to be critical. Initial reports suggested electrocution as the cause.
However, TGSPDCL SE Sriram Mohan (Rajendranagar Circle) clarified that the idol on the trolley was around 23 feet tall and the victims fell off the vehicle, leading to fatal injuries. He also maintained that the 33 kV line overhead neither snapped nor sagged and denied negligence on its part.
Other incidents in the city
The Bandlaguda tragedy follows two similar mishaps in the city. At Amberpet, a youth identified as Ram Charan died while attempting to lift overhead electrical wires to make way for an idol procession.
In Ramanthapur, six people died due to electrocution and four were seriously injured during Sri Krishnashtami celebrations, when a live wire came in contact with a decorated structure on Sunday.
Authorities urge caution
With three shocking incidents in quick succession, officials are urging organizers and devotees to take extreme precautions during idol transportation and festival processions.
Police have registered a case in connection with the Bandlaguda accident, and further investigation is underway.
