Hyderabad: A man driving under the influence of alcohol dragged a sub-inspector on the bonnet of his car for nearly half a kilometre, injuring three civilians in the process.
The man was trying to flee a police drunk-driving check. The incident occurred on Sunday night under the limits of Yacharam police station in Rangareddy district.
Attempt to evade drunk-driving check
According to the police, Yacharam Sub-Inspector Madhu was conducting drunk-driving inspections near the bus stand in Yacharam town when a speeding car approached the checkpoint. Despite being signalled to stop, the driver ignored the police instructions and attempted to flee.
In an effort to stop the vehicle, SI Madhu jumped onto the bonnet. However, the driver continued to speed away without stopping, dragging the officer for nearly 500 metres.

Two-wheeler hit, woman suffers fracture
While fleeing, the car rammed into a two-wheeler carrying Venkat Reddy, his daughter-in-law Divya, and their one-year-old grandson, all residents of Yacharam. The collision threw them onto the road.
Divya suffered a fracture to her arm, while Venkat Reddy and the infant sustained minor injuries. All the injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
SI jumps off to save life
After crossing Yacharam town, the car’s speed reduced momentarily, allowing SI Madhu to jump off the vehicle to save himself. He sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Accused nabbed after chase
Police later intercepted the car near Khanapur, close to Ibrahimpatnam, and took the driver into custody. The accused was identified as Srikar, a resident of Koheda. A breath analyser test confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police also stated that another person, Nithin from Hayathnagar, was present in the car at the time of the incident.
Case registered
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections for rash driving, causing hurt, and obstructing a public servant from discharging duty. Further investigation is underway.
