Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is ready to introduce 25 electric buses to Hyderabad city traffic.

On Monday, TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar inspected the new proto-electric (sample bus) AC bus at Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad.




Sajjanar posted photos of the bus on Twitter and the TSRTC team discussed several ideas regarding the amenities for commuters. He asked the officials to have the buses ready and running as soon as possible.



According to Sajjanar, 25 buses is just the beginning as the TSRTC has decided to introduce 1,300 electric buses in total. These buses will be made accessible to the public to give a better and more comfortable travel experience while also protecting the environment and preventing pollution.

As part of this initiative, Olectra Greentech ltd will be manufacturing 550 electric buses for TSRTC now. As many as 500 buses will be operated in Hyderabad and 50 buses along the Vijayawada route. Ten electric buses are already in service on the Vijayawada route.

“In the first phase, 50 electric AC buses will start services in Hyderabad, 20 of them will run in the Shamshabad Airport route, and another 30 will operate in the IT corridor,” said Sajjanar. The TSRTC will procure buses from Olectra in GCC Gross Cost Contract (GCC).

Hi-tech amenities

These 12-metre-long electric AC buses are equipped with cutting-edge technology. All amenities are in these buses provide better and more quality services to passengers.

These 35-seater buses contain mobile charging stations as well as seat belts. Each bus has three CCTV cameras installed. The CCTVs are said to have a one-month recording backup. A reverse parking assistance camera is also installed to allow the bus to reverse safely.

Four LED boards have been fitted in the bus to display destination information. The buses also have a Fire Detection Suppression System (FDSS) to detect and prevent fires. These buses have a range of 225 km on a single charge and take 2 to 3 hours to fully charge.

A panic button and a car monitoring system have been installed at each seat for the protection of the passengers.
