Hyderabad traffic police’s special drives aim to make city roads safer

Hyderabad: Road safety and traffic regulation and enforcement are of paramount importance to the Hyderabad traffic police. It has conducted numerous interventions and special drives in the past few months to make Hyderabad city roads safe and bring down fatalities of motorists and particularly pedestrians.

Driving on the wrong side/triple driving

During a special drive conducted by the Hyderabad traffic police on 28 November 2022 against RTC buses and heavy vehicles, a total of 24,658 cases were booked for driving on the wrong side and 1,30,311 cases against triple riding on motorcycles.


Drive against RTC buses/heavy vehicles

In an effort to bring down the number of road accidents and life-endangering traffic violations by RTC buses and heavy vehicles, the Hyderabad traffic police conducted a special drive on over-speeding, dangerous driving, driving on the wrong side, signal jumping, drunk driving, talking on the phone while driving, stop line/zebra line crossing, obstruction of the free left, stopping on the carriageway, not stopping in bus bays, and using multi-toned horns. This special drive which started on 2 January aimed to determine better road safety and more particularly to ensure pedestrian safety. A total of 3,892 cases were booked against RTC vehicles and 5,806 cases against heavy vehicles.


Operation ROPE

The Hyderabad traffic police took several initiatives to foster commuter discipline and road safety while supporting safe, substantive, and systematic traffic management. They launched Operation ROPE (Removal of Obstructive Parking & Encroachments) on 15 September 2022. A plan of action has been adopted to realise the actions under 4 Es traffic management—Enforcement, Education, Engineering, and Enablement.
