Hyderabad US Consulate to cancel visa services from 3 May

Hyderabad: Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country, the US Consulate General in Hyderabad on 27 April announced that all routine visa services are canceled from 3 May until further notice, including all routine non-immigrant visa interview appointments and interview waiver appointments.

The consulate also said that all routine American Citizen Services appointments are canceled from 27 April until further notice.

"Emergency American Citizen Services and visa appointments will continue to the extent that local conditions allow. We will make every attempt to honor scheduled emergency appointments during this time," the US Consulate General said.

On Tuesday, Australia canceled all flights from India. Apart from Australia, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Oman, UAE, Hong Kong, and Singapore have also temporarily banned Indian flights.

Meanwhile, For the first time, Telangana's single-day COVID tally breached the 10000 mark on Monday.

The state reported the highest single-day spike of 10,122 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. The overall tally has touched 4,11,905 in the state.

This is also the first time that the state reported a surge of around 3,571 cases within a day. On Sunday, the state had reported 6,551 new cases. The state has 69,221 active cases currently.

The state also reported the highest single-day deaths of 52 people on Monday taking the overall toll to 2,094. The fatality rate in the state is 0.50 percent which is less than the national average of 1.1 percent.

Out of 33 districts, 29 districts have reported cases in three digits. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported 1440 new cases. Neighboring Rangareddy district reported 621 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 751 new cases.

Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a steep surge in cases. Warangal Urban, where the Municipal Corporation election is scheduled on April 30, reported 621 cases on Monday. The previous day the district had reported only 329 cases. Nizamabad reported 498 new cases, while Nalgonda reported 469 cases, Khammam 424 cases, and Mahboobnagar 417 cases.

Around 6,446 citizens recovered from the infection on Monday taking total recoveries to 3,40,590 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 82.68 percent. The national average is 82.5 percent.
