Hyderabad: The Saifabad Police and Central Crime Station (CCS), Hyderabad, have cracked the theft incident at Vijay Shankar Lal Jewellers, Basheerbagh, by arresting two people, including a showroom employee.

Police have recovered gold and diamond ornaments worth about Rs 1.5 crore.

Ornaments stolen from Basheerbagh store

The case relates to a theft reported at Vijay Shankar Lal Jewellers, Basheerbagh, on September 5. Jewelry weighing approximately 850 grams, comprising 173 pieces, was stolen.

The complaint was lodged two days later, on September 7, after which Saifabad Police and CCS jointly launched an investigation.

Arrest near Nampally Railway Station

On September 11, acting on a tip-off, the police team nabbed the two accused near Nampally Railway Station. The entire stolen property was recovered intact.

The accused have been identified as Ronak Chadawa (24), marketing executive, Shanaya Diamonds, Mumbai, and Mohd Hasnain Habiya (22), student, Dongri, Mumbai. Both were produced before the ACJM Court, Nampally, and remanded to judicial custody.

IPL betting losses drove the crime

Investigations revealed that Chadawa had incurred heavy losses in IPL betting and was under severe financial pressure. After joining Shanaya Diamond Jewellery Pvt. Ltd. in April, he planned the theft.

His friend Habiya, also reeling under betting debts, joined hands with him. Together, they conspired and executed the theft from the complainant’s shop.

Advisory to Public

Police have appealed to jewellery merchants to thoroughly verify the antecedents of employees before hiring.

Citizens have also been urged to remain vigilant, safeguard valuables, and report any suspicious activity to the police through Dial 100.

“Cooperation of the public is crucial in preventing and detecting crime,” said DCP Shilpavalli.
