Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has filled 9,899 potholes out of the 12,696 identified across the city, as part of its ongoing road safety drive.

The initiative comes after weeks of heavy rainfall left several arterial and internal roads battered, causing severe inconvenience and hazards for motorists.

Officials have been instructed to complete the remaining repairs before the upcoming festive season.

Roads left battered by monsoon showers

Commuters across the city had to endure difficult rides as water-logged and damaged stretches worsened the condition of roads during the rains.

The GHMC has now prioritised repair works on arterial corridors, internal lanes, and even national highway stretches within city limits to restore smoother and safer travel.

Focus on Arterial and Internal Roads

According to GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, pothole repairs are being carried out not only on arterial stretches but also on internal roads and even the national highway passing through city limits. The civic body aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents.

IT Corridor gets priority repairs

The Hi-Tech ROB flyover in the city’s IT corridor, one of the busiest routes, was resurfaced after repeated complaints from motorists about deep potholes and uneven surfaces, making driving risky. GHMC engineering teams responded with urgent repair works and fresh tarmac, easing traffic on the stretch.

Public response and appreciation

The quick action has drawn public appreciation. Many citizens acknowledged the civic body’s efforts on social media.

One user wrote on X: “Thank you, GHMC, for promptly repairing the large potholes on the Hi-Tech ROB flyover and for laying a new road. This will ensure smoother and safer travel for commuters.”
