Hyderabad water supply hit: 19-hour disruption in multiple divisions
Hyderabad: Drinking water supply to large parts of Hyderabad will be disrupted for 19 hours following the detection of a major leakage in the 3,000 mm diameter MS pumping main of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme.
The leak was identified near the Srinivas Nagar Bridge, close to the Bommakal Pumping Station, necessitating immediate repair works to prevent further damage and ensure system safety.
Duration of water supply interruption
Officials said the emergency repairs will be carried out from 1 pm on Friday (January 2) to 6 am on Saturday (January 3).
During this period, the drinking water supply will be interrupted in several divisions across the city and surrounding areas.
Areas affected by the disruption
1. O&M Division – VI
SR Nagar, Sanathnagar, Borabanda, SPR Hills, Erragadda, Banjara Hills, Vengal Rao Nagar, Yellareddyguda, Somajiguda and Fatehnagar.
2. O&M Division – IX
Kukatpally, Bhagyanagar, Vivekanandanagar, Yellammabanda, Moosapet, Bharathnagar, Mothinagar, Gayatri Nagar, Babanagar, KPHB, Balaji Nagar and Hasmathpet.
3. O&M Division – XII
Chintal, Suchitra, Jeedimetla, Shapurnagar, Gajularamaram, Suraram, Adarsh Nagar, Bhagat Singh Nagar, Jagadgirigutta and Ushodaya.
4. O&M Division – XIII
Alwal, Father Balayya Nagar, Venkatapuram, Machabollaram, Defence Colony, Vajpayinagar, Yapral, Chanakyapuri, Gauthamnagar and Sainathpuram.
5. O&M Division – XIV (Kapra Municipality)
Cherlapally, Saibaba Nagar and Radhika.
6. O&M Division – XV
Kondapur, Doyens Colony and parts of Madhapur.
7. O&M Division – XVII
Hafeezpet and Miyapur.
8. O&M Division – XXI
Kompally, Gundlapochampally, Toomkunta, Jawahar Nagar, Dammaiguda and Nagaram.
9. O&M Division – XXI (Additional Areas)
Nizampet, Bachupally, Pragathi Nagar, Gandimaisamma, Tellapur and Bollaram.
10. Transmission Division – IV
MES Lines, Trishul Lines, Gunrock, Hakimpet Air Force area, Secunderabad Cantonment and AIIMS–Bibinagar.
11. RWS offtake areas
Aleru (Bhuvanagiri district) and Ghanpur (Medchal–Shamirpet).
Advisory to residents
Water supply authorities have advised residents in the affected areas to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly during the disruption period.
Normal water supply is expected to resume immediately after completion of the repair works, the HMWSSB officials said.
