Hyderabad: Week-long rains subside; overcast skies signal evening showers

Hyderabad: After a week marked by persistent rains, Hyderabad residents experienced a partly sunny morning on Friday. Although early morning drizzles persisted, the sun eventually broke through, providing a welcome break from the gloomy weather.

In the 24-hour period leading up to 8:30 am on Friday, Rajendranagar recorded 13.5 mm of rainfall, with Yousufguda and Langar Houz receiving 12.8 mm and 12.3 mm, respectively. Several other areas in the city reported light rains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that Hyderabad will continue to experience light rain or drizzles throughout the day.

Balaji, popularly known as Telangana Weatherman on X (formerly known as Twitter) stated: ā€œResidents can expect a generally overcast day with chances of light showers, especially in the evening.ā€

Moderate rain across Telangana

Beyond Hyderabad, the IMD forecasts light to moderate rain or thundershowers across Telangana.

Northern districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam are likely to see moderate rains, while southern districts such as Rangareddy, Nalgonda, and Mahabubnagar may experience lighter showers.

ā€œThere is a significant likelihood of evening showers in Hyderabad and its nearby areas,ā€ Balaji added.

Flood alert at Srisailam

The weather department has also issued a warning for potential heavy floods in the Srisailam and Jurala regions along the Krishna River, as well as along the Godavari River. This is due to heavy rainfall in the upstream areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka, which is likely to increase water levels.

Authorities advise residents to stay informed about the weather conditions and to take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas.
