Hyderabad welcomes New Year's first showers; mercury plummets, fog returns

According to Balaji, a rare phenomenon of dense fog and showers is seen in parts of Hyderabad. It is due to the transition from warm moist weather to cold, dry weather, known as dryline showers. These rains are to bliss Hyderabad city only for one day, but a clear indication of a cold wave in Telangana.

"With the arrival of northerly winds from January 6, Hyderabad will have colder nights. When moist easterlies (winds coming from the Bay of Bengal) are replaced by the dry and cold northerlies (winds coming from north India), then the temperatures drop," said Balaji.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather forecast says light rains will occur on Friday. There will be dry weather in the state in the coming days.
Cold wave begins
Weatherman said parts of Telangana will witness intense chill from January 6-11. Mercury will hover between 7-9 degree Celsius in North and West Telangana. Temperatures in other parts will be in the range of 10-15 degree Celsius.
Hyderabad would witness temperatures between 10-15 degree Celsius.
