Hyderabad: Protests erupted outside LB Nagar Police Station after a woman was allegedly tortured in custody.

Identified as Lakshmi, she reportedly claimed that she was subjected to torture and physical abuse in police custody.

The incident reportedly took place on August 15 when Lakshmi was apprehended by police officers in a late-night operation.

She alleged that her cell phone was confiscated, and physically assaulted inside the LB Nagar Police Station.

She suffered serious wounds in the alleged torture. Cops allegedly used blunt force that caused trauma.

The incident came to light when Lakshmi's relatives organized a protest outside the LB Nagar Police Station on Thursday, demanding justice for the victim. The situation escalated as protesters alleged misconduct by the police personnel.

LB Nagar Inspector Anji Reddy, however, denied the allegations. However, it only intensified public anger.

Following the public outcry, the Rachakonda Commissionerate took cognizance of the matter. Rachakonda CP DS Chauhan suspended head constable Sivashankar and female constable Sumalatha of LB Nagar PS pending investigation.

"Three women were reportedly involved in an altercation at LB Nagar crossroads. Upon receiving information, the police intervened. In the early hours of the 16th of this month, the women were brought to the police station. A case under IPC section 290 was filed against them, and they were produced in court. We take these allegations very seriously and will ensure a comprehensive investigation is conducted. If any personnel are found guilty, strict action will be taken," assured LB Nagar DCP Saishri.
