Hyderabad: Youth held for harassing woman entrepreneur, online fraud

Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police, Hyderabad arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly harassed a woman entrepreneur through fake social media accounts and ran fraudulent websites to dupe the public.
The accused, identified as Kuna Dharma Rao, is a private employee hailing from Amadalavalasa in Srikakulam district and currently residing in a hostel in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad. He was taken into custody after a detailed investigation into a complaint filed by a female entrepreneur.
The police seized a laptop, two mobile phones, two debit cards, two bank passbooks, seven SIM cards, a fake Infosys ID Card, a hard disk and three Aadhaar Cards from the possession of the accused.
According to police, the victim, who runs an online business on YouTube, lodged a complaint on February 18, 2025. She alleged that the accused created fake Instagram and WhatsApp profiles, posing as a potential customer.
Dharma Rao persistently pressured her to meet in person to purchase products. Upon her refusal, he allegedly posted vulgar and inappropriate comments on her online platform, causing significant distress and reputational harm.
A case was registered under Cr. No. 402/2025 for offenses under Section 67 of the IT Act and Sections 78, 79, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Modus Operandi:
The accused created a fake website under the name Sex Medisco Company to lure people with promises of quick earnings. He opened multiple fake bank accounts using Aadhaar cards of beggars and fabricated ID cards. He also used fake social media handles and AI-powered tools to impersonate others and manipulate conversations online.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant while interacting with unknown individuals on social media platforms.
Citizens are advised not to share personal or financial information with unverified contacts and to report any suspicious activity to the Cyber Crime Police or the nearest police station.
