Hyderabad: City Civil Court has disposed of two accident cases and awarded compensation to victims and families in Hyderabad.

RTC bus accident: Youth to receive ₹21.73 lakh

In the first case, the court awarded Rs 21,73,572 as compensation to a youth who lost his leg after being hit by a bus belonging to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).

The victim, G. Nithish Reddy of Yellareddyguda, met with the accident on June 3, 2022, near the Patny Metro Station.

According to the case records, Reddy was standing on a road divider when an RTC bus, driven at high speed, rammed into the divider. The impact shattered the divider stones, one of which struck his left leg, causing severe injuries.

Doctors were forced to amputate his left leg up to the joint. Following the incident, the Market Police registered a case against the bus driver under Section 338 of the IPC (causing grievous hurt by rash or negligent act).

After examining the evidence, the court concluded that driver Chinta Raghavulu’s negligence was the direct cause of the accident. Taking into account medical expenses, loss of income, and other damages, the court directed the RTC and the driver to jointly pay the compensation.

Man dies after being locked inside a car: ₹5 lakh compensation

In a separate ruling, the court sanctioned Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the family of a man who died of suffocation after being accidentally locked inside a car.

The deceased, Sattireddy, a resident of Turkaguda in Ibrahimpatnam mandal, Rangareddy district, had travelled on August 25, 2022, in a Maruti Swift car to attend the inauguration of the Collectorate building at Kongarakalan.

The car owner, K. Bheem Arjun, parked the vehicle and locked it without realizing that Sattireddy was still inside. Tragically, Sattireddy died due to a lack of oxygen. His family later approached the court seeking compensation.

The insurer, Tata AIG Insurance, opposed the claim, arguing that the death did not constitute an accident and suggesting it was a case of suicide. The court rejected this contention, describing it as untenable and attributing it to a typographical and factual error.

Holding the incident to be accidental, the court directed the car owner and the insurance company to pay the compensation to the bereaved family.
