Hyderabad: Cyberabad Commissioner ADGP V.C. Sajjanar on Monday launched a website for a foundation that encourages citizens not to waste food. He along with Cyberabad traffic DCP S.M. Vijay Kumar also flagged off the organisation's food pickup van.

The website - dontwastefoodfoundation.org – is part of the 'Don't Waste Food' initiative started in 2011 by philanthropist Chakradhar Goud and social worker Malleshwar Rao. The project took off with the help of CEO of Skybell Technology Services Private Limited Sirish Verma and agency partners Blinking Dots. The foundation began a network of structures where people can donate leftover food which is collected and distributed to the homeless on a regular basis. The food is also distributed among the kith and kin of patients who wait outside the city's government hospitals.

The work had received nationwide acclaim from many prominent personalities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned the social work done by Malleshwar Rao in his broadcast Mann ki Baat. Chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra, Anand Mahindra had tweeted about the foundation's work. "I will not complaint about 2020 being a difficult year after having seen this. Malleshwar Rao, I salute you & support you. Life isn't difficult when you remove the difficulties of others. (sic)" he had said.

Chakradhar Goud expressed happiness over the Cyberabad CP flagging off the initiative. "Presently, we distribute food to around 2,000 people daily. If we can utilise the food being wasted in the hotels of the city every day, no one in the city will sleep hungry," he said. To donate food, visit dontwastefoodfoundation.org or call Malleshwar Rao at 7207103539.
