Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has introduced six new Green Metro Luxury Electric AC buses on key routes in Hyderabad’s IT corridor. These buses aim to provide a comfortable and eco-friendly transportation option for IT professionals.

New Routes for IT Professionals

TGSRTC has launched new routes based on the demand from IT heads. “We have had these AC buses before also, but we wanted to start new routes, that’s how this started. After multiple meetings with IT heads’ we reached the conclusion that these new routes were needed,” said V.C. Sajjanar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of TGSRTC, speaking to Newsmeter.

The newly introduced routes are:

• 216W: Lingampally to Mehdipatnam via Nallagandla, Wipro Circle, Nanakramguda, Khajaguda, Tolichowki, and Mehdipatnam.

• 216G: Lingampally to Lakshmi Gar via Nallagandla, Q City, Wipro Circle, and Lakshmi Gar.

Increase in Bus Fleet

TGSRTC is expanding its electric bus fleet. “In further days, the total number of buses will reach 500. These services started last year, and it will take 2-3 months for complete implementation,” Sajjanar stated.

He also encouraged IT professionals to make use of the service. “The response from commuters is picking up as it’s still new. But I would like to make an appeal stating that IT professionals should use this resource given to them. It would not just save them time and energy but also provides comfort and is great for the environment. Instead of 50 vehicles on the road, there will be one bus that is environment-friendly. That is important,” he added.

Electric Bus Features

The new electric buses are 12 meters long and have a seating capacity of 35 passengers. They can travel up to 225 km on a single charge, with full charging taking approximately 3 to 4 hours.

Eco-Friendly Public Transport

TSRTC has been operating electric buses in Hyderabad since March 2019. Currently, 40 AC electric buses run from various locations to Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport, transporting around 5,000 passengers daily.

The introduction of more electric buses aligns with the state’s goal of reducing pollution and promoting sustainable urban transport. With IT professionals opting for public transport over private vehicles, these buses can help lower traffic congestion and carbon emissions in Hyderabad.
