Hyderabad: In a major drive against encroachments and illegal constructions, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Friday cleared unauthorised structures at multiple locations across the city, reclaiming government land, lake buffer zones and temple property.
The enforcement action resulted in the protection of 3.20 acres of government land at Borabanda, the removal of illegal constructions over 11 acres within the Full Tank Level (FTL) of Sumarakunta lake at Dulapally, and the safeguarding of 1,365 square yards of land belonging to a Shiva temple at Nagaram in Medchal–Malkajgiri district.
Illegal constructions removed from Sumarakunta lake FTL
HYDRAA officials carried out a large-scale eviction drive at Sumarakunta in Dulapally village, Dundigal–Gandimaisamma mandal, Medchal–Malkajgiri district.
The lake spreads across nearly 42 acres, and encroachments were found within its FTL limits, violating established regulations.
Acting on public complaints, HYDRAA removed illegal structures spread over 11 acres, including scrap shops, temporary sheds housing hotels, container fabrication units and welding shops.
Officials said the encroachers had illegally filled soil, erected boundary walls and constructed sheds in the lake’s buffer zone.
HYDRAA clarified that only seasonal agriculture is permitted in ‘shikam patta’ lands within FTL limits when there is no water, and that any construction, soil filling or fencing is strictly prohibited. The removals were carried out to prevent flooding and public inconvenience during the monsoon season.
3.20 acres of government land reclaimed at Borabanda
HYDRAA also reclaimed 3.20 acres of government land located in Survey No. 128/1 of Yusufguda village, under Khairatabad mandal. The land had earlier been acquired by the government under the Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) Act.
Officials said attempts were made to grab around 3,600 square yards of the land using forged documents falsely claiming ULC clearance. A case has been registered at Borabanda Police Station against one Sharif Khan in this connection.
Temporary sheds, along with sand and brick-related commercial activities operating illegally on the land, were removed. HYDRAA fenced the reclaimed area to prevent future encroachments.
Temple land protected at Nagaram
In another operation, HYDRAA safeguarded 1,365 square yards of land belonging to a Shiva temple at Ramakrishna Nagar Colony (HMT Layout), Nagaram, in Keesara mandal of Medchal–Malkajgiri district.
The temple was constructed in 2017 on 400 square yards, while the remaining land was left vacant. Local residents complained that attempts were being made to encroach upon the temple land.
Following a field-level inquiry and verification with revenue and local authorities, HYDRAA confirmed the land belonged to the temple. Boards were installed at the site, clearly marking the land as temple property, ensuring its protection from unauthorised occupation.
HYDRAA officials reiterated that strict action will continue against encroachments on public land, water bodies and religious properties, and urged citizens to report violations.
