Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Monday reclaimed and secured five acres of prime government land worth over Rs 600 crore at Maktamahbubpet in Miyapur of Serilingampally mandal, Rangareddy district.
The operation also thwarted attempts to encroach upon the Maktamahbub Kunta and its bund, located parallel to the Miyapur-Bachupally main road.
18 illegal shops, private bus parking removed
HYDRAA demolished 18 illegally constructed shops spread across a 200-metre stretch on the lake bund. Land being unlawfully used for private bus parking behind commercial establishments was also cleared.
According to officials, encroachers were collecting about Rs 50,000 per shop per month, earning nearly Rs 9 lakh and around Rs 8 lakh per month from illegal bus parking.
Prajavani complaint led to probe
The action followed a complaint received through the Prajavani public grievance platform, alleging encroachment of the lake bund in Survey No. 39, illegal occupation of five acres of government land in Survey No. 44/5, earlier allotted for mining.
Based on the complaint, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath ordered a detailed field inquiry, after which eviction proceedings were launched.

Fake survey number used for land grab
The inquiry revealed that encroachers had fabricated Survey No. 44/4 in place of the actual Survey No. 44/5 to illegally occupy the land. The entire parcel had been converted into a commercial zone with a car washing centre and rental operations.
Officials confirmed that the mining lease extension was denied by the government.
Despite this, illegal occupation continued using forged survey records. It also came to light that the Serilingampally Tahsildar had issued notices and removed similar illegal structures as early as 2013.
Influential backing suspected
HYDRAA officials identified Kuna Satyam Goud and Bandari Ashok Mudiraj as the prime accused behind the encroachment. They are suspected to be operating with the backing of influential political and financial elements.
The current claimants of the land do not possess any ownership documents and admitted to having only private agreements with unidentified persons, whose identities are yet to be verified.
‘Fake survey numbers, illegal rentals a citywide menace’
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath said many land grabbers across Hyderabad are using the same modus operandi, entering government land using fake survey numbers, erecting illegal sheds, allowing bus parking and collecting lakhs and crores every month.
He said the illegal income is used to maintain private security, bouncers and muscle power to retain possession of public land.
“All such lands fall under the prohibited list. They have no ownership titles, no legal rights and no building permissions. Everything is managed at the local level with the tacit support of a few officials or political elements,” the Commissioner said.
Hundreds of such lands under HYDRAA scanner
Commissioner Ranganath revealed that hundreds of similar government lands valued at thousands of crores are being identified across the city.
HYDRAA is reclaiming encroached lands, erecting fencing and warning boards, recording latitude-longitude coordinates, deploying regular patrols and drone surveillance for monitoring reclaimed assets.
Fencing erected, lake area also secured
HYDRAA has now fully fenced the five-acre government land at Maktamahbubpet. The agency has also blocked encroachment attempts on the adjacent five-acre lake area, ensuring long-term protection of both public land and water bodies.
