Hyderabad: HYDRAA carried out two separate anti-encroachment operations, one along the Musi riverbed and the other at a designated park site in Moosapet.

The operations followed public complaints and were met with appreciation from local residents who had long demanded action.

Illegal sheds demolished on Musi Riverbed

HYDRAA launched a massive clearance operation along the Musi River stretch from Chaderghat Bridge to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary. Multiple encroachments were identified on the riverbed, where land had been flattened and sheds were built illegally.

These sheds were being used for commercial purposes such as vehicle parking, generator repairs, nursery businesses and even alleged anti-social activities. Locals had been raising concerns for months over the misuse of the riverbed, which posed both environmental and safety risks.

Based on their investigation, HYDRAA found that Tikaram Singh had encroached on 3.10 acres, Poonam Chand Yadav on 1.30 acres and Jayakrishna on 5.22 acres. All three had constructed sheds and were renting them out for various commercial uses. The agency swiftly cleared the structures and restored the area.

Residents, who had lodged complaints with HYDRA, expressed their gratitude for the prompt response. Many hailed the move as a crucial step toward reclaiming public spaces and preventing illegal land use along the river corridor.

Park land in Moosapet freed from encroachment

In another action taken the same day, HYDRAA cleared encroachments from a 2,000-square-yard plot in Anjaneya Nagar, Moosapet, which had been earmarked for a public park under the HUDA-approved layout.

The land had been encroached by a local businessman named Yaseen, who was running a tent supplies shop on one side of the road and had converted the park site into a storage yard for sound systems, tent equipment and generator repairs.

Despite GHMC allocating Rs 50 lakh for park development and laying the foundation for a compound wall, Yaseen and his associates reportedly obstructed the work.

Following multiple complaints filed by local residents with the GHMC, police and HYDRAA via the Prajavani platform, a detailed inquiry was conducted. HYDRAA confirmed that the site was indeed designated for park use and proceeded to clear all illegal material and structures from the land.

Residents call for early park development

With the park site now cleared, residents are demanding that GHMC immediately resume the development work as originally planned. They have reiterated their long-standing request for green public spaces in the densely populated area.

ā€œWe’ve waited long enough. Now that the land has been freed from encroachment, we expect the authorities to fulfil their promise and build the park,ā€ a resident said.
