HYDRAA demolishes shops illegally built over AVB Puram Nala in Kukatpally
Hyderabad: Enforcement teams from HYDRAA on Monday demolished multiple encroachments along the AVB Puram Nala in Kukatpally, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, preventing potential flood risks to nearby residential areas.
The nala, which stretches from Pariki Cheruvu and merges with Kukatpally Nala, had been blocked over a 10-meter stretch, with more than 3 meters illegally occupied.
Illegal structures causing blockages
Officials found two shuttered commercial establishments built directly on the nala, along with constructions over manholes. These included shops engaged in mobile phone and laptop sales and repairs, further obstructing the natural flow of water.
Flood threats to three colonies
Residents of Saibaba Colony, HAL Colony and Maitrivanagar complained of waterlogging and flash flooding even after moderate rains. The blocked nala had caused rainwater to stagnate, affecting homes and streets in these areas.
Authorities act promptly
Following inspections based on residentsā complaints, the Hyderabad Water Board (HYDRAA) carried out demolition and clearance operations along the nala. Officials confirmed that removing the encroachments has restored water flow and mitigated flood risks.
Residents welcome action
The residents expressed relief and appreciation for the swift action, saying it will help prevent the annual monsoon flooding that has repeatedly affected their colonies in the past.
