Hyderabad: HYDRAA chief invites corporates, tourism wing to assist in rejuvenating Hyderabad lakes
Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath on Thursday said that there will be no obstacles in the development of the lakes across the city. Ranganath, accompanied by the officials, conducted a ground-level inspection and examined the ongoing lake rejuvenation works of Pedda Cheruvu in Khajaguda (Nanakramguda) and Ibrahimbagh Lake in Neknampur.
Corporates should provide CSR funds
The HYDRAA chief also said that the government is prioritising the development and beautification of lakes in the city. āCorporate companies should extend CSR funds and support the development of lakes. The residents of the surrounding areas should also support the lake rejuvenation works,ā he said.
During his visit, the residents of NSL Infra and Divyasree Infra, who have undertaken work there, brought to the attention of the commissioner the difficulties encountered in the development of Khajaguda Lake. In response to their plea, Ranganath spoke to the irrigation officials there and suggested that canal diversion works should be taken up to prevent sewage water from entering the lake.
HYDRAA seeks tourism departmentās participation in bettering lakes
Ranganath also invited Tourism Development Corporation AGM Varaprasad to participate on behalf of the department in developing the Khajaguda Lake area so that it can become a tourist attraction. He further said that the encroachments on Ibrahimbagh Lake in Neknampur have been cleared recently, and some organisations have already adopted the lake.
Lake flow blocked by residential sewage
Locals and officials informed the HYDRAA commissioner that the floodwater from Durgam Cheruvu, Khajaguda Lake, Malkam Cheruvu and Film Nagar Lake is not reaching Ibrahimbagh Lake. These lakes and channels were filled with sewage due to the increase in residential areas, the locals said.
The locals asked the commissioner to divert the sewage from the above areas and save the Ibrahimbagh Lake as they were facing a tough time due to severe odour from the sewage and mosquito menace. Ranganath discussed with the locals the possibilities of developing the pond around the lake, which is spread over 88 acres.
Ranganath asked the irrigation officials to divert the canals so that the sewage wouldn't enter Ibrahimbagh Lake. He also sought cooperation from the local people for setting up STPs along with the diversion of canals and beautification works.
The HYDRAA commissioner cautioned that stern action would be taken to prevent encroachment of the lakes and, once the development and beautification works of the lakes are completed, especially Ibrahimbagh Lake, where a pleasant atmosphere would be created for the residents of Alkapuri Colony, Vessella Meadows and EVV Colony, he added.
