HYDRAA orders FTL & Buffer zone fencing, issues 48-hour deadline on lake encroachments in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a firm move to safeguard the city’s lakes from encroachments and illegal dumping, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath has directed officials to install fencing around lake Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones across Hyderabad.

He said fencing is essential to prevent dumping of soil and protect water bodies from further degradation.

Field inspection on public grievances

Acting on Prajavani complaints, the HYDRAA Commissioner undertook a field inspection on Saturday. During the visit, local residents pointed out illegal soil dumping within the FTL limits of Mellacheruvu.

Taking serious note, the Commissioner ordered immediate removal of the dumped soil and directed the concerned individual to ensure compliance without delay.

48-hour deadline at Gandipet Lake

At Gandipet Lake, particularly on the Himayatnagar village side, the Commissioner found large-scale soil dumping within the lake’s protected limits.

He instructed the responsible party to clear the dumped material immediately and issued a clear warning that strict action would follow if the soil was not removed within 48 hours.

Crackdown on Nala and Park Encroachments

The Commissioner later inspected encroachments along the Bulkapur Nala in the Manikonda area. He also reviewed illegal occupations in public parks located on Jubilee Hills Road Nos. 32 and 33.

Residents were instructed to demolish unauthorised structures built inside park premises, including sheds erected in the name of watchmen quarters and cattle shelters.

Ensuring public access to parks

HYDRAA officials were directed to close private gates opened by nearby residents into park areas and to install a main public entrance instead. The Commissioner emphasised that parks must remain accessible to all citizens and not be converted into private spaces.

Firm message on Lake Protection

Reiterating HYDRAA’s commitment to protecting lakes, nalas, and public open spaces, the Commissioner warned that any violations within FTL, buffer zones, or public lands would invite stringent action, including demolition and legal proceedings.
