HYDRAA orders nala rebuild in Banjara Hills, flood canal desilting in Old City

Hyderabad: HYDRAA takes up collapsed nala reconstruction and canal desilting to curb flooding inBanjara Hills and Old City

Hyderabad: In anticipation of the monsoon season, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath undertook a comprehensive tour on Thursday, inspecting several areas susceptible to flooding. His focus was on ensuring the city’s floodwater infrastructure is prepared to handle heavy rainfall and prevent inundation in low-lying localities.

Addressing retaining wall collapse in Banjara Hills

The Commissioner’s first stop was Ambedkar Basti in Banjara Hills, where a recently collapsed nala retaining wall has been a source of concern for residents.

Locals complained that the breach was causing floodwater to enter their neighbourhood, posing a significant threat during heavy downpours.

Responding to these issues, Ranganath directed the contractor to accelerate the ongoing reconstruction efforts, emphasising the urgency of the situation.

Desilting efforts in Old City to prevent flooding

The tour continued to the Old City’s Talabchanchalam division, where Ranganath examined the crucial flood canal connecting Gurra Cheruvu and the Musi River.

Residents highlighted that the canal had not been desilted for years, creating a major flood risk for hundreds of surrounding colonies. They noted that the desilting works initiated by HYDRAA this year had already made a positive impact, preventing recent waterlogging.

The commissioner inspected the ongoing silt removal works, which have been in progress for the past 15 days. He ordered officials to deploy additional machinery to expedite the process and complete the task as quickly as possible, ensuring the canal’s full capacity is restored.
