Hyderabad: The enforcement teams of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) teams began their operations against illegal structures in three different locations in the city on Sunday, following a break caused by the intense rains in the past few days.
With the assistance from representatives of the GHMC and the irrigation and revenue departments, HYDRAA teams demolished buildings situated in the FTL and the buffer zone surrounding three water tanks– Kathwa Cheruvu in Mallampet (Dundigal municipality), Pedda Cheruvu in Ameenpur, (Sangareddy district) and Sunam Cheruvu in Madhapur.
Kathwa Cheruvu
At Dindigul municipality, HYDRAA teams demolished villas in Lakshmi Srinivas Constructions built in the FTL of Kathwa Cheruvu in Mallampet. The teams were supported by the local police who arranged the bandobast for the exercise.
In Dundigal Kathwa pond, the officials have removed 11 duplex villa buildings that were being constructed illegally in the FTL area and reclaimed a two acre pond.
Sunam Cheruvu
In Madhapur, the teams razed down sheds and buildings in the FTL and buffer zones at Sunam Cheruvu spread across 26 acres.
The officials identified encroachments in survey numbers 12, 13, 14 and 16 in the FTL. The encroachers have erected sheds and carried out their business. Amid tight police security, the officials have demolished the sheds and buildings.
HYDRAA stepped in after receiving a large number of complaints that the Sunnam Cheruvu was encroached upon. A few days ago a survey was conducted at Sunnam Cheruvu and the HYDRAA served notices to the encroachers.
As there was no response from the invaders, the enforcement teams of the HYDRAA entered the field and demolished the unauthorised structures.
The authorities demolished the four storied and two storied buildings and more than thirty sheds under construction in the area and reclaimed 10 acres of pond land in Sunam Cheruvu
Tension prevailed for a while in and around the vicinity of Sunam Cheruvu, the victims staged a demonstration by pouring kerosene oil on them and threatened to immolate them condemning the demolition drive taken by the HYDRAA.
With the situation going out of control, police personnel reached the spot and took the agitating locals into custody to restore normalcy in the place.
Pedda Cheruvu
In a similar exercise at Ameenpur lake in Sangareddy district, HYDRAA demolished the unauthorised structures in the FTL and buffer zone limits of Pedda Cheruvu.
The enforcement teams have demolished the unauthorised structures reportedly belonging to YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Panyam former MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy.
As part of the demolition drive, the teams have razed down a compound wall and two security guard rooms that are constructed in 51 acres in the FTL limits of Pedda Cheruvu near Padmavati Nagar.
