Hyderabad: In a major drive to protect government land, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Saturday took possession of 12 acres of prime land in Shamshabad mandal, Ranga Reddy district.

The property, valued at nearly Rs 500 crore, had been under encroachment for several years.

Encroached land cleared

The land, situated in Survey No. 17 of Shathamarai village, had boundary walls and sheds erected by private claimants.

HYDRAA teams, accompanied by revenue officials, demolished these structures and fenced the entire parcel. Boards declaring it as government property were also put up.

Allocated to Intermediate Education Board

Officials clarified that the land was formally allotted to the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education in 2011. However, a local political leader and Aneesh Constructions attempted to claim ownership. The company had even installed boards in its name and tried to initiate construction activities.

False claims of Asaf Jahi Ownership

Encroachers alleged that they had purchased the land from descendants of the Asaf Jahi rulers and claimed to be using it for agricultural purposes.

Revenue officials, however, confirmed that no Asaf Jahi lands existed in Shamshabad mandal. They said records of land in other areas were misused to justify the encroachment.

Complaints prompted action

Local residents, alarmed by the construction activity, submitted photographs to HYDRAA. At the same time, the Intermediate Education Board lodged an official complaint. HYDRAA then conducted a joint field inspection with revenue officials before taking action.

Selective protection during eviction

While removing encroachments, HYDRAA protected existing residences, along with a temple and a mosque located on about one acre of the land. The rest of the 12-acre plot was cleared of illegal occupation.

Government’s strong stand

HYDRAA officials stated that Aneesh Constructions and its director, Sripad Deshpande, were already facing multiple land dispute complaints. Saturday’s operation, they said, sends a strong message that all encroachments on public land will be removed and government property safeguarded.
