HYDRAA reclaims Rs 39 crore park land in Nizampet, restores 2,600 sq. yards of public space

Hyderabad: In a decisive move to safeguard public open spaces, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) reclaimed two park sites in Nizampet Municipality from encroachers on Wednesday.

The reclaimed lands, measuring a total of 2,600 square yards and valued at over Rs 39 crore, were fenced and officially restored for community use.

Two parks freed from illegal occupation

HYDRAA officials, acting on complaints received through the Prajavani grievance platform, conducted inspections in Brindavan Colony and Kaushalya Colony.

In Brindavan Colony, a 2,300 sq. yard park area was reclaimed. In Kaushalya Colony, the “Banyan Tree Park” spread across 300 sq. yards was freed from illegal occupation. Records confirmed that both sites, located under Survey No. 93, had long been earmarked as park lands. However, local encroachers attempted to occupy the land, falsely claiming it belonged to Survey No. 94.

Encroachers damaged existing park facilities

Officials found that the intruders had demolished fencing, removed signage, and destroyed play equipment in an effort to erase traces of the public park. The encroachment had caused distress among residents, who feared losing one of the few remaining green spaces in their locality.

HYDRAA acts on Commissioner’s instructions

Following an on-site verification, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath directed immediate clearance operations. Teams removed all illegal structures, fenced the 2,600 sq. yard stretch, and installed new boards designating the area as protected park land under HYDRAA’s supervision.

Residents applaud swift and transparent action

The restoration drive sparked celebrations among residents, who visited the reclaimed parks with their families. Expressing gratitude, they credited HYDRAA and the state government for responding promptly to their concerns. “HYDRAA’s quick response gave us our park back,” said one Brindavan Colony resident. “This is a victory for our community.”

Model for future urban protection

Officials stated that HYDRAA’s intervention in Nizampet would serve as a model for protecting open spaces across Hyderabad. By combining citizen participation and official vigilance, the agency aims to ensure that parks and public lands remain free from encroachments and accessible to all residents.
