Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Friday secured 12.17 acres of government land at Gandamguda village in Gandipet mandal of Rangareddy district.

The land, valued at approximately Rs 1,200 crore, was fenced to prevent further encroachments.

Encroachment complaints from residents

The action followed complaints from local residents, who alerted HYDRAA through the Prajavani grievance platform about alleged encroachments on government land in Survey No. 43. As per official records, the survey number comprises a total of 26 acres of government land.

Previous allocations in the same survey

Of the total extent, one acre had earlier been allotted for an electricity substation, while another nine acres were earmarked for the dumping of solid waste by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

However, officials noted that the remaining land was gradually being encroached upon.

Field verification and official orders

Acting on the complaints, HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath directed a joint field inspection involving officials from the departments concerned. After on-ground verification and confirmation that the land belonged to the government, the Commissioner ordered immediate measures to secure the property.

Fencing is undertaken to safeguard land

On Friday, HYDRAA teams fenced the 12.17-acre stretch to prevent future encroachments. Officials said special care was taken to protect an existing temple and mosque located within the area, while fencing was carried out around the remaining government land.

Boards were installed, declaring government ownership

To reinforce its claim and deter illegal occupation, HYDRAA also installed signboards declaring the fenced area as government land. Officials said the measure would help ensure long-term protection of the land and prevent further encroachments.

HYDRAA officials said that similar actions will continue across Hyderabad to safeguard valuable government properties from illegal occupation.
