Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath said that deliberations will be held with the irrigation engineers and revenue officials on the complaints made in connection with the full tank level (FTL) of Thurkayamjal Lake.

The HYDRAA commissioner on Wednesday inspected the lake after receiving a complaint during a recent ‘Prajavani’ programme from locals that their houses on the upper side of the lake were being submerged due to the closing of the lake’s sluices and widening the gap.

Experts from IIT, BITS Pilani will help demarcate lake boundaries

After inspecting the lake, Ranganath said that Thurkayamjal Lake was spread in 495 acres and the total area is 522 acres, taking into account all these calculations.

A study will also be conducted with engineering experts from IIT, BITS Pilani and JNTU. He said images and maps made by the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of the villages will be analysed to determine the lake FTL in two to three months.

“We will act impartially and thoroughly look into the complaints that some lakes in the city are disappearing while others are increasing in FTL range. Sewage water is coming into the Thurkayamjal Lake and locals complain that the water is not going down,” he said and added that residents of Aditya Nagar residing on the upper side of the lake complained that there was no water in their plots when they purchased them.

Ranganath assured the locals that after knowing all the details about the lake they would determine the FTL through scientific analysis. The commissioner also assured that the lake FTL would be confirmed after examining the NRSC images along with the maps and revenue records of the village and in consultation with the officials of all departments.
