Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has directed the engineering and planning departments to conduct a comprehensive city-wide survey to identify and document all dilapidated structures.
This includes old houses, shops, sheds, and compound walls across all circles and divisions, with instructions to upload the details online promptly. Karnan stressed the importance of identifying weak government school buildings with unstable walls or roofs and reporting them to the Education Department.
The initiative is part of the monsoon preparedness.
Officials are instructed to assess the structural condition of these buildings and issue notices to the occupants or property owners. āIf a building is found to be in poor condition, owners must be advised to carry out necessary repairs, and in cases of imminent risk, ensure the building is vacated,ā the GHMC Commissioner said.
Karnan further said that daily inspection reports must be submitted to the central office. Deputy City Planners and Assistant Planning Officers are directed to take immediate action, while engineers are to inspect and evaluate the safety of the structures.
The GHMC also warned that any failure to identify such dangerous buildings in advance, should a collapse occur, will result in disciplinary action against the responsible officials.
