Telangana: Telangana High Court has issued notice to the Secretary, Ministry of Surface Transport (National Highways), Government of India, Chief Secretary of Telangana on a PIL about illegal parking of heavy vehicles on the highways.
Notice was also issued to Secretary Transport Roads & Buildings Department, Commissioner of Transport, Chief Engineer, Roads & Buildings, Principal Secretary, Home Department, and the Director General of Police TS. They have been asked to reply within 6 weeks.
A division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar was adjudicating the matter after converting the letter of D. Nagaraju, a mason of Nizamabad Town, into PIL.
The petitioner in his letter informed the Court that the illegal parking of heavy vehicles on the national highways causes accidents and leads to the death of motorists.
He said the state machinery has not taken any steps to ensure that the heavy vehicles are not parked on the national highways. He said due to this, there are frequent accidents.
The petitioner, while traveling on the NH-44 from Nizamabad to Kamareddy on December 19, 2021, on a motorbike along with his wife Rekha and his nine-year-old daughter D. Vibhavi met with an accident. His daughter died in the accident, while he suffered fractures.
The petitioner informed the Court that three engineering students also died when their Qualis met with an accident because of illegal parking of a heavy vehicle on Rajiv Rahadari.
