Illegal water pipeline connections busted in SR Nagar, seven motors seized
Hyderabad: In a crackdown on illegal water usage, officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) have seized seven electric motors that were unlawfully attached to public water pipelines in SRT Colony under SR Nagar.
Illegal tapping affects water pressure
The Water Board supplies drinking water to the Greater Hyderabad region, extending up to the Outer Ring Road, through an extensive pipeline network built at a high cost.
However, officials observed that in some areas, consumers have been illegally fixing electric motors to their taps to draw water directly from the pipelines.
This practice significantly reduces water pressure, affecting supply to other households. Authorities have termed the act illegal and warned of strict action against violators.

Multiple illegal motor connections found
Acting on complaints from locals, vigilance officials conducted inspections during water supply hours in SRT Colony. They found multiple instances of motors being directly connected to pipelines and seized a total of seven such motors.
The Water Board stated that regular inspections are being carried out to curb such violations and ensure equitable water distribution.
Penalties and legal action
Officials warned that consumers caught installing motors will face action as per HMWSSB regulations, including seizure of equipment.
Repeat offenders will be fined Rs 5,000 and may face legal consequences.
Contact water board to report illegal water usage
The Water Board has urged residents not to engage in illegal practices and instead report issues such as low water pressure or supply disruptions to concerned officials, including local managers, Deputy General Managers (DGMs), or General Managers (GMs).
