Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light-to-moderate showers, intermittent heavy thundershowers, gusty winds, and lower temperatures in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana on Friday.

IMD Forecast: Rain and Thunderstorms

The IMD-Hyderabad, in its Friday morning bulletin, said: “Light-to-moderate showers interspersed with intense thundershowers, gusty winds, and low temperatures are likely in multiple districts throughout the day.”

In its immediate forecast valid between 10 am and 11 am, the IMD added “Light rain and thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed less than 40 kmph very likely to occur in Hyderabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Siricilla and Suryapet districts for the next 2 to 3 hours.”

“Moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are interacting with a trough running across Telangana, which is triggering thundershowers. The rainfall will be uneven but frequent through the day," meteorologist K. S. Sridhar told NewsMeter.

Independent Weather Alerts

Independent meteorologists echoed the IMD’s warnings. City-based forecaster T. Balaji cautioned residents about continued wet conditions. Posting on X, he wrote:

“Dear people of Hyderabad, the next round of moderate-heavy rainfall is ahead in Hyderabad for the next 2 hours. Plan accordingly today, the whole day we have on and off rain.”

“The thunderstorm activity is likely to peak in the evening hours. Short bursts of heavy rain combined with winds may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.” Sridhar added.

Residents Advised to Plan Ahead

With continuous showers expected across the day, both IMD and independent forecasters have urged residents to factor in the weather for travel and outdoor plans. The IMD reiterated, “Commuters are advised to remain cautious, as rainfall accompanied by gusty winds can affect visibility and road conditions.”
