In a rare May downpour, Hyderabad records close to 100 mm rain; advisory issued
The IMD says that there will be thunderstorms and lightning along with heavy rains

Hyderabad: In a rare May downpour, Hyderabad recorded close to 100 mm of rain in just one hour on Wednesday night.
Santosh Nagar recorded the highest of 98.8 mm, while Saidabad and Malakpet recorded 92.3 mm and 91.8 mm rain on Wednesday night.
āItās a 100 mm rain in Hyderabad,ā said T Balaji, also known as Telangana weatherman, wrote on X.
Heavy rains caused flooding
Due to the heavy rains in Hyderabad flooding was seen on the roads and also colonies of low lying areas in Bandlaguda, Malakpet, Saroornagar, L B Nagar and Champapet in Hyderabad.
In Secunderabad, the Sikh village and the lower parts of Malkajgiri, Kapra Lake were flooded with rainwater.
Rare rains in May
The 100 mm rainfall in few parts of the city is rare in May. The Indian Meterological Department has issued a yellow alert till May 25.
The IMD says that there will be thunderstorms and lightning along with heavy rains in Hyderabad and Telangana districts. Low pressure area over East Central Arabaina Sea to North Telangana will continue to persist today, says IMD.
Conditions favourable for monsoon
IMD says the conditions are likely to become more favourable for onset of monsoon over Kerala during next two to three days. The conditions are also likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some more parts of South Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area; some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu; some more parts South & Central Bay of Bengal, North Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeastern states during the same period.
Warnings issued
Waterlogging in low-lying areas due to the heavy downpour.
Traffic congestion is expected in many areas
Wet and Slippery roads
Tree branches and electric poles can get affected
Caution for people
Restrict movement during heavy rains
Do not take shelter near trees that are close to electric poles.
Do not opt for navigating bikes in flooded waters, as there are chances of being swept away.
