Hyderabad: Telangana braces for intense weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a very heavy rainfall alert for several districts on Thursday, May 29.
The department has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and squalls across all districts, with Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, and Bhadradri Kothagudem expected to experience the heaviest rainfall.
Statewide weather alert until June 1
The IMD has extended the forecast for thunderstorms and related weather activity until June 1, covering almost all districts of Telangana. Daily variations in rainfall intensity are expected, with some areas experiencing heavier spells.

Hyderabad to receive scattered rains
In Hyderabad, the IMD predicts scattered rainfall with occasional intense spells accompanied by gusty winds. A yellow alert has been issued for the city and will remain in effect until May 31.
āThe maximum temperature in the city is expected to remain below 36°C due to cloud cover and rainfall,ā said KS Sridhar, meteorologist from IMD Hyderabad, speaking to NewsMeter.
Expert predictions: Focus on South and West Telangana
Sridhar stated that West and South Telangana are likely to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days. āHyderabad will likely see scattered showers rather than continuous downpours,ā he added.
Public advisory and preparedness
Residents across the State, especially in vulnerable districts like Bhupalpally and Kothagudem, are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes and avoid travel during intense weather activity. Local authorities are monitoring the situation and have been advised to remain on standby for any emergency response.
The IMD continues to issue regular updates and urges the public to follow official channels for the most accurate information.
