IPL 2021: Madhapur SOT busts 7 betting rackets, arrests 23, seizes Rs 2.21 Cr

Hyderabad: Special Operation Team (SOT) of Madhapur Zone on Wednesday busted seven IPL betting rackets and nabbed 23 bookies in the city.

Seven bookies are absconding. Police have seized property worth Rs. 2,21,65,000.

On credible information, SOT Madhapur conducted raids at Miyapur, Bachupally, Gachibowli, and Mailardevpally. "On reliable information, the SOT Madhapur apprehended 23 cricket bookies of Organized Online Cricket betting rackets," said police.

Ten of those arrested were carrying betting in Gachibowli limits, three in Miyapur limits, and 10 others in Bachupally limits.

Police seized net cash of Rs. 93,00,052, 14 Betting Boards, 8 Laptops, 247-Mobile Phones, 28 Smartphones, 4 Tabs, 4 TV's, 2 Routers, one Printer and 5 Four Wheeler Vehicles from their possession.

According to police, cricket betting happens in four layers. The first layer comprises the main bookie, the second layer has a sub-bookie. The third comprises a bookie, and the fourth layer includes punters.

Main bookie Maha, a resident of Vijayawada, was organizing the online cricket betting. He runs operations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He is also on the run. The other accused Suresh, Chintha Venu, Godavarthi Venkatesh had taken mainline access from Maha.

Most of the racket operates online. The main accused is connected through the mainline to numerous sub-bookies in Hyderabad.

"The odds/ratings of the Gamblers/Punters can be seen from time to time in the online betting apps such as Fancy Life Entertainment Application, Live Line Guru, Cricket Mazza, Lotus, Bet-365, Bet fair and etc., which is provided by the agents," police said.

The payment is made both online, and by cash. The network has trapped many gullible youth in the city.
