Hyderabad: In a major boost to Hyderabad’s traffic infrastructure, the much-awaited Kondapur (Shilpa Layout Phase 2) flyover, connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to Kondapur, is set to be inaugurated in the first week of June.

The flyover is expected to ease severe traffic congestion in the IT corridor, particularly at the busy Gachibowli Junction.

Kondapur flyover in numbers

The six-lane flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs 178 crore under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), is nearly complete. Spanning 1.2 km and 24 meters in width, the flyover stands out as a multi-tiered structure—the third level above two existing flyovers at the same junction.

It aims to streamline traffic flow from ORR to key destinations such as Kondapur, Hafeezpet, Hitech City, and the Financial District.

Smooth drive from Kondapur to airport

Once operational, the flyover is expected to drastically cut down travel time for thousands of daily commuters and provide a signal-free corridor for vehicles heading toward central business zones. It will also ensure a smooth, uninterrupted drive between Kondapur and Shamshabad Airport.

Final touches underway

Despite earlier delays, construction has been fast-tracked in recent weeks. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner RV Karnan has conducted several inspections and instructed engineers to complete the work by the end of May. The chief minister is scheduled to formally inaugurate the flyover in early June.

Part of a larger urban push

This project marks the 23rd flyover under the SRDP to be opened in Hyderabad.

With its commissioning, 37 out of 42 SRDP projects will be complete. Commissioner Karnan has also set deadlines for the completion of the Falaknuma and Shastripuram railway overbridges (ROBs), targeting July and August, respectively.

Hyderabad’s infrastructure gets a boost, says State

As part of the government’s Praja Palana initiative, the CM A Revanth Reddy-led administration has prioritised infrastructure development, the government said.

Under the ā€œH Cityā€ initiative, GHMC will execute projects worth Rs 7,032 crore, including 28 new flyovers, 13 underpasses, 4 ROBs, 3 railway underbridges (RUBs), and 10 road-widening projects. Many of these works are set to begin in June.

The opening of the Kondapur flyover symbolises a major milestone in Hyderabad’s journey toward becoming a more commuter-friendly and globally competitive city.
