JBS–Medchal, JBS–Shameerpet, RGIA–Future City: HAML finalizes DPRs for Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has finalised the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Phase 2B of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, proposing an ambitious 86.1 km network expansion at an estimated cost of Rs 19,579 crore.
The reports, covering the JBS–Medchal, JBS–Shameerpet, and RGIA–Future City corridors, were approved by the HAML Board on May 8 and are currently under review by the Telangana State government.
According to HAML Managing Director NVS Reddy, the DPRs have been prepared in alignment with Central government guidelines and urban traffic demands, and full project details will be made public after State-level approval and submission to the Centre.
Key corridors proposed
The JBS–Medchal route will be a fully elevated 24.5 km stretch with 18 stations. The JBS–Shameerpet corridor, spanning 22 km with 14 stations, includes a 1.65 km underground section near the Hakimpet Air Force Station, with the remaining 20.35 km elevated.
The third corridor, RGIA to Future City (Skill University), will cover 39.6 km. This alignment includes 1.5 km of underground metro from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, 21 km elevated, and 17 km at ground level, passing through Pedda Golconda and Raviryala ORR exits.
Focus on regional growth and connectivity
The DPRs aim to improve connectivity in the Hyderabad capital region while supporting the broader vision of transforming the JBS area into an international transit and commercial hub, as directed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The proposed metro expansion is expected to play a critical role in addressing future urban mobility needs and decongesting road traffic in the city’s fast-growing corridors, NVS Reddy said.
