Jewel in the crown: Hyderabad International Airport wins `National Energy Leader award

Hyderabad: Hyderabad International Airport has won CII `National Energy Leader' and `Excellent Energy Efficient Unit' awards at the 22nd National Award Ceremony for excellence in energy management.

Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Godrej Green Business Centre (GBC), the 20th edition of 'Energy Efficiency Summit' was held in virtual mode from August 24 - 27 2021.

The 'National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management' is instituted by CII to catalyze significant and innovative practices for the energy efficiency sector, thereby facilitating energy-efficient and sustainable growth for the Indian industry.

Hyderabad International Airport has been recognized with `National Energy Leader' and `Excellent Energy Efficient Unit' accolades for the 3rd and 5th year in a row, respectively.

On behalf of Hyderabad International Airport, Prasanna Kumar Potdar, Head – Engineering and Technical Services, and Vijay Rathod, Head PTB Engineering, digitally received the awards on August 27 amidst the presence of industry dignitaries and participants on the last day of the event.

The annual forum recognizes the companies engaged in energy-efficiency initiatives that adopt best practices and technological advancement in their daily operations. The jury evaluated the participants on many parameters of energy efficiency and innovative thought process adopted. The jury, CII members, and industry delegates appreciated the initiatives of Hyderabad International Airport.

Over the last three years, Hyderabad International Airport operations have led to a substantial energy saving of around 5.53 MU owing to its consistent and sustainable approach towards energy efficiency measures, which has also led to a rapid dip in the GHG (Green House Gas) emissions at the airport. It is worth noting that Hyderabad International Airport is also a Carbon Neutral Airport having Level 3 + `Neutrality' Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI) under its Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme.
