Jubilee Hills bypoll: Independent Salman Khan’s nomination rejected over ‘incomplete bank info’

Hyderabad: Popular social media personality Salman Khan, who had submitted his nomination to contest in the Jubilee Hills by-election independently, said that the Election Commission has rejected his nomination.

In a tweet, Salman Khan, also known for being the founder of Hyderabad Youth Congress, announced his nomination being rejected: “On October 22, my nomination for the Jubilee Hills bypoll has been rejected without any reason. The returning officer is being pressured by the Congress government.” (Translated from Hindi)

What happened?

According to sources, the nomination was rejected as Salman Khan has not provided all the bank account details. The returning officer and their team have details of other bank accounts of Salman Khan, and these have not been put in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

This is the reason for the rejection of the nomination, said the source.

The affidavit by Salman Khan mentions his property assets are more than Rs 5 lakh; his wife has Rs 1,000 in the bank account and Rs 20,000 cash and three tolas of gold.

“There is one more bank account, and those details are not provided,” said an officer.

Who is Salman Khan?

Salman Khan filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the election. He has been campaigning for the Jubilee Hills by-election from the time the seat became vacant due to the demise of former BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath.

Salman Khan is known in Jubilee Hills for collecting aid for Gaza.
