Jubliee Hills by-poll: Stage set for counting on Friday; political pundits predict photo finish

Hyderabad : The stage is all set for the counting of votes in Jubliee Hills Assembly by-poll on Friday.

Police have issued prohibitory orders to maintain peace on the counting day.

The counting for Jubliee Hills Assembly constituency will be held on Friday

Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and Bharaitya Janta Party are locked in a fierce fight. Political pundits predict a photo finish.

There are 58 candidates in the fray. There was a 48.9 percent voter turnout on November 11.

The by-election was necessitated by the demise of sitting BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June 2025.

Highlights of polling day

There were minor political skirmishes between the rival party supporters. Both the ruling Congress and BRS alleged violation of the model code of conduct. Both political parties sent more than three letters and highlighted the misconduct on the polling day.

Election Commission of India noted that of the total 4.01.365 registered voters, 1,94,631 exercised their franchise. Over a hundred citizens cast their votes through postal ballots.

Of the 2,08,561 male voters, 99,771 exercised their franchise. Of the 1,92,77,9 female voters, 94,855 cast their ballot. Of 25 other voters, 5 cast their vote.

The constituency, which covers a mix of affluent neighbourhoods and densely populated colonies, witnessed high-voltage campaigning from the three main contenders, with the overall turnout slightly higher than the previous Assembly election.

Counting Schedule

Date: Friday, November 14, 20258

Start Time: 8:00 AM

Venue: Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium, Yousufguda, Hyderabad

Counting Structure: 10 rounds across 42 tables

The Election Commission has imposed prohibitory orders around the counting centre until November 15 to ensure a peaceful declaration of the result. Political observers predict a razor-thin margin, making the counting process—scheduled across 10 rounds—a keenly watched event in Telangana's political calendar.

The Triangular Contest and High Stakes

The by-election results are going to have immense political implications for the major parties:

Congress:

V. Naveen Yadav is relying on the support of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen to consolidate the sizable minority vote bank. The by-election is also seen as a test of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's leadership in an urban segment

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS):

Maganti Sunitha Gopinath, the widow of the late MLA, is banking on a sympathy wave and the BRS's votebank in the city.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP):

L Deepak Reddy is contesting to establish the BJP as the principal challenger to the Congress in the Greater Hyderabad region
