Justices Alok Aradhe, Dheeraj Singh Thakur recommended as CJs to Telugu states

By Newsmeter Network Published on 6 July 2023 10:19 AM GMTHyderabad: On Thursday, the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud recommended the appointment of Justice Alok Aradhe as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court and Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur as Andhra Pradesh Chief Justice.
Justice Alok Aradhe hails from Madhya Pradesh and has been the High Court judge in the state since his appointment in 2009.
However, since 2018, he has been a senior puisne judge (a term for an ordinary judge or a judge of lesser rank of a particular court) in his parent High Court. He has been functioning on transfer since November 2018 as a judge of the Karnataka High Court and has acquired experience of more than 13 years in dispensing justice in two large high courts.
Taking into account his expansive experience and all relevant factors, the collegium considered Justice Alok Aradhe fit and suitable for being appointed as the chief justice of Telangana High Court.

Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur hails from Jammu and Kashmir. He served as a judge of the High Court in that state in 2013. Since June 2022, he has been serving as a judge of the Bombay High Court. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended him as a judge of the Manipur High Court, but the recommendation was cancelled as it was pending with the Central government.
However, this time his name has been recommended as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
