Kapra CC roadworks: Contractor abandons project after GHMC flags shoddy work; residents fume.

Hyderabad: A contractor has arbitrarily stopped the cement contract (CC) roadworks in the Kapra division sending GHMC into a tizzy.

This follows the objection raised by the GHMC town planning officials over the quality of the work carried out by contractor Ravindra Sagar.

Residents of Madhavapuri and several layouts in the Kapra division are suffering a great deal due to the suspension of the CC Road Works.

According to the residents of Madhavapuri Colony, the contractor was using threatening and abusive language against GHMC authorities. After a two-year battle and follow-up with GHMC, the CC roadworks had been approved.

Residents are experiencing tremendous inconvenience due to this impasse between GHMC and the contractor.

ā€œWe haven't been able to park our cars in our garages and basements due to this issue. We have had to find far-off places to leave our vehicles as we cannot drive through these incomplete roadsā€ says Durga Srinivas President of the Madhavpuri Welfare Association.

ā€œIn view of the upcoming monsoon, the state of the roads is going to get worse. The road has been left half dug up and incomplete. It can be hazardous for people to walk on these roadsā€ he added.

Despite the fact that Corporator Swarnaraj has pledged his unwavering support to the citizens' cause, the Kapra division of the GHMC has failed to come up with a workable solution.

ā€œThe GHMC is completely helpless because they have a procedure to follow. There is not much that can be done until the contractor responds to the notices being sent to himā€ said Durga.

Justice awaits the residents, who hope the Deputy Commissioner of Kapra and the Zonal Commissioner take appropriate action against the contractor and take steps to restart works.

The residents and the Corporator want the Contractor to be blacklisted and barred from participating in any GHMC tender.
