Khairatabad Bada Ganesh: CM Revanth performs puja before Saturday immersion

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday offered special prayers at the iconic ‘Bada Ganesh’ idol in Khairatabad, marking the final day of darshan before the grand Nimajjanam scheduled for Saturday.

Chief Minister leads rituals

Revanth Reddy, accompanied by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Khairatabad MLA D Nagender and other leaders, performed puja at the towering ‘Vishwashanti Mahashakti Ganapati’.

The Chief Minister lauded the Utsav Committee for carrying forward the Khairatabad Ganesh tradition for 71 years and making it a nationally recognised celebration.

Government support for devotees

The Chief Minister highlighted that the State government had provided free electricity to Ganesh pandals across Hyderabad, an initiative he said was ‘unprecedented in any other state or city.’

This step, he noted, allowed devotees to organise celebrations without financial strain.

Message of harmony

CM Revanth underlined Hyderabad’s reputation as a symbol of communal harmony, stating that the government ensured smooth festivities through coordination among multiple departments while respecting all faiths.

CM advises caution for Nimajjanam

Elaborate arrangements are in place for Saturday’s idol immersions at Hussain Sagar, Tank Bund and other designated lakes. The Chief Minister urged devotees to participate in the immersion with devotion and caution to ensure safety.

Khairatabad idol at 69 feet

Ganesh Chaturthi festivities began on August 27 across Telangana. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma performed the inaugural puja at Khairatabad on the opening day.

This year’s Khairatabad idol, crafted from clay, steel and rice husk, stands 69 feet tall and 28 feet wide, drawing lakhs of devotees from the city and neighbouring districts.

Logistical challenges for Saturday

Authorities, in coordination with the Utsav Committee, have begun preparing to transport the massive idol to Hussain Sagar Lake. Moving and immersing the 69-foot structure requires meticulous planning by civic agencies, police, and volunteers.
