By Anoushka Caroline Williams Published on 28 Sep 2023 2:24 PM GMTHyderabad: In a sensational display of festive fervour, the police personnel in Hyderabad stole the show by breaking into impromptu and energetic dance moves during the āGanesh Visarjanā procession near Tank Bund on Thursday.
The spectacle was witnessed as the colossal 63-foot Bada Ganesh idol of Khairtabad was carried for immersion. The performance was led by Central Zone DCP M Venkateshwarlu, Saifabad ACP Sanjay Kumar, and Khairatabad Inspector Bala Gopal, among others. The police, typically associated with law enforcementās seriousness, let loose and showcased their dance prowess, revealing their joyful and human side.
The highlight of the show was the lone police official who stood on the parapet that separated the crowd moving along the procession. He started off by grooving to the music Telangana-style which caught the attention of the crowd and his colleagues who cheered him from the ground. He would face one way first and deliver a performance and then turn the other way and deliver another performance, making everyone join in on the fun.
He then conjured the dance moves of Micheal Jackson into the festivities. He performed one after the other, the signature moves of the international pop icon, while the crowd on both sides gathered beneath him taking videos of the dancing police officer.
Although tired and sweating from the heat, his enthusiasm did not subside. Soon, he brought a pair of dark sunglasses that completed his Micheal Jackson avatar. He would mimic the āinvisible wallā and the āinvisible ropeā moves while the crowd around him cheered him on. Even the narrow parapet wall did not deter him as he went up and down on his knees, bringing out the best dance moves of this festive season.
Police and civilians celebrate together
The groups of police personnel on the ground showed equal enthusiasm. The civilians around them were no match for the passion they brought to the Ganesh celebrations. Most of the police personnel at the spot broke into high-energy dance numbers in groups, waving their hands in the air together and circling among each other in big smiles.
They cheered their loudest every time the beat dropped, high-fiving each other and encouraging everyone around them to join in the fun. Every Telangana folk song on the playlist became an instant dance hit. Police officers, including the senior officers, joined in with the civilians and danced around each other as one group, adding a very wholesome moment to this yearās Ganesh celebrations.
This yearās Nimarjan wins rare praise

It involves a huge procedure of de-welding, lifting the idol with the big crane, placing it on the special vehicle, rewelding, moving the idol to the immersion point on NTR marg, puja, unwelding and then lifting the idol and its immersion. 6-7 hours at least.ā
āOnce Khairtabad Ganesh is immersed, then the remaining procession moves fast as all cranes are free for immersionā he added.
