The total challans amounted to Rs. 37,365. According to reports, during a special drive focusing on traffic violations that was started on 18 June, the Banjara Hills police spotted a four-wheeler that belonged to the MLA that had pending traffic challans.
"The traffic violations were overspeeding, signal jumping, etc.," said B. Shankar, Banjara Hills traffic inspector. He also said a special drive was being conducted to check traffic violations by high-end cars, minors driving without a license, vehicles having registration but without number plates, etc.
The Hyderabad traffic police said that during their drive to check pending challans, clear instructions have been issued to all traffic personnel to be considerate when women or members of the family are travelling in the vehicle. "In such cases, an opportunity will be given to the vehicle owner to clear the challans in the next 72 hours, failing which a charge sheet will be filed," the traffic police said.
More 4-wheelers booked
A total of 1,745 cases were booked in the 13 traffic police stations in north Hyderabad by the Hyderabad traffic police on 18 June. Most of the cases (943) were booked against two-wheelers, followed by four-wheelers (688), and three-wheelers (108). Six cases were booked against L wheelers (motor vehicles with less than four wheels but does include light four-wheelers). Hyderabad traffic police said these days more four-wheelers are being booked for traffic violations unlike before. Apparently, earlier the focus was on two-wheelers, but now they have started watching out for four-wheelers violating traffic rules as well.
Among the police stations in north Hyderabad, the highest number of cases were booked at the Gopalapuram traffic police station (194), 188 cases were registered at SR Nagar traffic PS, 178 cases at Abids traffic PS, and 177 cases at Begumpet traffic PS.
Most of the cases against two-wheelers were booked at SR Nagar and Chikkadpally traffic police stations (120). The highest number of cases against three-wheelers and four-wheelers was booked at Mahankali traffic PS (20) and Gopalapuram traffic PS, respectively. Among the six cases booked against L wheelers, one was registered at Marredpally traffic PS, two each at SR Nagar Traffic PS and Abids PS, and one case at Saifabad traffic PS.
