Hyderabad: Hyderabad recorded 40°C for the first time in decades which is also the highest temperature in the third week of June.

The Indian Meteorological Department - Hyderabad issued an orange alert to Hyderabad and a few other parts of Telangana with the maximum temperature in Hyderabad expected to be 40-44 °C till Sunday.

According to a bulletin released by the Telangana State Development and Planning Society, "June 17, and 18 will be the hottest days of the current summer season, Over the next four days, many districts are likely to witness severe heat wave."

On Saturday, Damarcherla in the Nalgonda district recorded the highest temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Khammam at 46.6 degrees Celsius and Peddapalli at 46.4 °C

At least 20 locations had temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with Palvancha in Bhadradri Kothagudem reaching 46.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Kagaznagar in Kumaran Bheem district at 46.1 degrees Celsius and Tadvai in Mulug district at 46 °C

In Hyderabad, Khairatabad recorded the highest temperature of 42.6 °C followed by 41.9 °C in Gachibowli.

"A heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius higher than the normal temperature of the previous few years. A severe heatwave occurs when the deviation surpasses 6.4 °C" said IMD scientist Sravani.

Many people choose to stay home to avoid the unpleasant heat wave-like conditions. Rising mercury levels necessitate more awareness and readiness among people of these places.

As Hyderabad faces another intense heatwave, it is crucial to take necessary precautions such as constant hydration and keeping your head covered in peak heat hours, especially while stepping outside.
