Khammam Collectorate to serve free food for visitors with disabilities at SHG canteen
Persons with disabilities can avail of food coupons

Khammam: On Wednesday, district collector Muzammil Khan launched a free food facility for persons with disabilities at the Self-Help Group (SHG)-run Collectorate Canteen, following a request from them.
The collector came up with the initiative of providing food for persons of disabilities visiting the collectorate from across the district to inform their grievances to the department officials during Prajavani every Monday. However, free food will be offered to persons with disabilities every day.

Speaking to NewsMeter, Muzammil Khan said that the free food menu would not only have rice and a curry. He said he took the initiative with the utmost priority and ensured the meal would have rice, two curries, chutney, sambar/rasam and curd. Visitors with disabilities would be given coupons every day at the Collectorate Canteen after verifying their Sadaram certificates. Later, the coupon details will be entered into a register to make a monthly payment to the contractor.
āWe will be providing free lunch in the SHG-run collectorate canteen to all visitors with disabilities, as nearly 25ā30 people visit us every day and around 45ā50 members on Mondays for Prajavani. The college is 10-15 km from Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC), and there are few canteens around, limiting options. A set menu has been prepared for Rs 80, akin to a āthaliā, which will be borne by the administration,ā the collector said, and he added that display boards were also set up across the collectorate to inform persons with disabilities about the initiative.
