Hyderabad: Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), in coordination with Cyberabad police, arrested two sons of senior Telangana police officers for their roles in the Kompally drug racket.

Those arrested include Rahul Teja, son of a senior intelligence officer, and Pallepaka Mohan, son of an additional superintendent of police.

Rahul Teja evaded arrest for 18 months

Rahul Teja was arrested for his alleged role as a key facilitator in the interstate racket. Despite being named in a January 2024 narcotics case by Nizamabad police, he had managed to evade arrest for over 18 months.

His involvement came to light after EAGLE officials analysed call records and technical evidence linked to six people arrested last week, including Kompally restaurant owner A Surya Annamaneni.

Mohan acted as a courier and elite link

Mohan was arrested on Sunday for allegedly acting as a crucial link between Nigerian suppliers and high-end clients in Hyderabad. Police said he colluded with courier handlers to receive drug consignments and distribute them among elite consumers. He was produced before the court and remanded.

Nigerian nationals to be deported

Authorities confirmed that multiple Nigerian nationals allegedly involved in trafficking cocaine and MDMA in the network, identified as Nick, Jerry, Dezmond, Stanley, and Prince, will be deported following their arrest.

Financial records showed Surya had transferred Rs 1.39 lakh and Rs 41,000 to Nick’s accounts through his company “Ternion Hospitality,” which previously acquired a restaurant in Madhapur.

The prime accused ran a restaurant as a front

Surya, a BTech and MBA graduate and owner of Malnadu Restaurant in Kompally, was the first to be arrested. Police seized cocaine, ecstasy pills, and OG Kush (weed) from him, hidden in a woman’s sandal heel, packed in a courier box sent from Delhi under the alias ‘Fatima’ via Shree Maruti Courier.

Based on his confession, investigators tracked down other key players.

Drugs sourced from Delhi, Punjab, and Himachal

In the earlier Nizamabad case, Rahul Teja’s aides, D Vikram and Khaja Mohiddin Chisty, had revealed that he introduced them to drug suppliers in Delhi, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.

Drugs were couriered concealed in shoes by a foreign national and delivered to Hyderabad. Despite being named in the FIR and chargesheet, Teja was neither arrested nor did he seek anticipatory bail until now.

New Year party plan exposed Teja’s role

Rahul Teja, who also runs a restaurant in Hyderabad, first came under scrutiny after planning a New Year party in December 2023. Nizamabad police caught two of his aides on NH-44 with cocaine, MDMA, and ganja. His associates named him the mastermind behind procurement and distribution.

Harsha sourced drugs post Goa internship

Police said another accused, Harsha, was introduced to drugs during an internship in Goa and began sourcing substances from other cities for Hyderabad’s student and pub-going communities.

Upscale pubs under scanner

Surya named upscale pubs such as Prism, Farm Pub, Block 22, Bird Box, and Broadway as regular venues for consuming cocaine. Pub owners, gym trainers, techies, doctors, and businessmen were also named as consumers in the network.

Further arrests likely

Police said the racket’s supply chain spanned Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, and Hyderabad. Further investigation is underway into financial flows and courier links, and more arrests are likely. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, the EAGLE team said.
