Hyderabad: Owners of three prominent pubs in Hyderabad have been booked for allegedly allowing their premises to be used for drug consumption.
The case relates to the Kompally drug bust.
EAGLE officials have named the owners and key management of these pubs as accused of facilitating drug abuse.
Booked under the NDPS Act
The pub owners and partners have been booked under Section 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which deals with allowing any premises to be used for committing offences under the Act.
“In this case, the three pub managements facilitated their premises for drug use by the arrested individuals, and hence have been booked,” sources involved in the investigation said.
Pubs across the city under the radar
Investigators revealed that the accused individuals had previously consumed drugs at pubs in the Financial District, Road No. 45 in Jubilee Hills, and Madhapur. In recent weeks, they used pubs in Kondapur and on Road No. 36 and Road No. 45 in Jubilee Hills for drug abuse.
Specific areas inside pubs are used for drugs
Police said that during interrogation, the accused confessed to using specific spots inside these pubs to consume drugs. “Certain areas were demarcated by the accused for drug abuse within the premises,” officials stated.
Owners yet to be arrested
While the pubs management has been named as the accused, they have not been arrested so far. Police have contacted them for clarification on the allegations and their role in the case.
Pubs operated beyond business hours
Preliminary investigation suggests that the arrested individuals were allowed to stay back at these pubs even after closing hours to consume drugs late into the night.
Son of a senior intelligence officer among the accused
So far, three people have been taken into custody for questioning, including the son of a senior intelligence officer. Investigators are trying to unearth the full extent of the drug network, its supply chain, and the recipients of the drugs.
African national supplier detained
An African national allegedly involved in supplying drugs has also been detained, and authorities are considering deportation. Officials are now probing the financial trail, including banking transactions of the accused, and have found that payments were made to drug suppliers based in Delhi.
