KTR concedes defeat: CM has resigned, BRS losing elections is a speedbreaker
Speaking about the party’s contribution to the state and the reasons behind BRS defeat, he said that it is time for introspection.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 3 Dec 2023 1:26 PM GMTHyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao, while conceding defeat in the 2023 Telangana State Assembly elections, called the BRS loss a speedbreaker, and informed the public that chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has resigned from his post and submitted the same to the governor.
Speaking to the press, he began by thanking the lakhs of workers of the BRS party for their participation. “Unfortunately, the result is not what we wanted. We are short by about 20 seats,” he said. “However, as the party working president, I tell my party members that this loss is a speed breaker. KCR will come back strongest,” he added.
“I am deeply grateful to the people for blessing us for two consecutive terms. We tried our best to make Telangana number one in the country. We will continue to strive for the greater good and we assure all support to the new government. We wish them the very best and will play the role of a constructive opposition,” he added.
'Time for introspection'
Speaking about the party’s contribution to the state and the reasons behind BRS defeat, he said that it is time for introspection.
“This is the state for which we fought hard and our party chief risked his life. We will be an opposition which will make the government accountable. Even if we are shocked, even if it was a wave, it would have been a one party throughout but at the same time, we need to introspect. Even with the kind of work we did in Peddapalle, Chennur and Singareni, Congress won with a majority. In certain Assembly constituencies, we lost by a slim margin. A few of our ministers also lost, it is unfortunate. Seems like there are a variety of reasons.”
The way forward for BRS
“Equanimity is extremely important in politics, yet we are sad. However, we will come back strongly. We will work double hard and ensure that we will represent people’s voices in the Assembly. Congress has been given the opportunity to run the state, I congratulate them. BRS expects the Congress to deliver its mandate promised during the elections,” said KTR, explaining the party's next step as the Opposition for the next ruling government of Telangana.
“We promise to be a good opposition and we will continue to raise the voice of people. We accept people’s mandate and I would like to thank the public and the administrative machinery for working with the BRS party. I congratulate the BRS winners and those who worked hard in the elections and I wish the best to every worker in every mandal, village and district,” he said.
“We worked hard to achieve Telangana and with the same spirit we will work hard to bring back the BRS government in Telangana,” he said.
