KTR lays foundation for ORR water supply scheme at Alkapur

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister KT Rama Rao laid the foundation for the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Phase II drinking water supply scheme at Alkapur Township in Manikonda on Monday.

The scheme is taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 587 crore covering five Mandals. Around 41 water reservoirs will be constructed with a total capacity of 71.5 ML and 1,293 km pipeline will be laid consisting of HDPE pipeline (756 km) and DI pipeline (537 km).

With 83,270 additional connections, the scheme is going to benefit over 1.96 lakh people. The scheme is expected to provide water supply infrastructure to the extended areas of ULBs and villages by laying inlet, outlet, distribution network, and construction of service reservoirs in Rajendranagar, Shameerpet, Medchal, Qutubullapur, Patancheru, Ramachandrapuram, and Bolarum Mandals.

Alkapur is located eight kilometers away from Hitech city and comes under Manikonda municipality. The residents have been continuously demanding a water connection from the municipality. They have been paying crores of rupees to private tankers. Due to the high demand for water in the area, private tankers also raised their prices. The groundwater level had also fallen to 2,000 feet in the area, making the water highly contaminated. Hence, residents were also spending a lot to treat the water.
